Privacy & cookies

This page explains who runs the site, what data is collected, on what legal basis, and how to exercise your rights.

Who runs this site

Where in the World Is… is operated by an independent private individual. You can reach the site through the contact form.

What data is collected

Analytics. If you accept cookies in the consent banner, Google Analytics records usage statistics such as pages visited and approximate region. If you decline, Analytics does not start and its storage remains disabled.

Advertising. Pages carry advertising from Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-6838193708388923), which may set cookies to measure and personalise the ads you see. Google's AdSense script is present so Google can verify the site, but advertising storage and personalised advertising stay disabled until you accept. You can change your mind at any time: clear this site's cookies in your browser, and the consent banner will appear again on your next visit so you can decline. Google's own use of advertising data is described in its advertising policies.

Maps. The map uses an open basemap with OpenStreetMap data. Viewing the map requests its visual map tiles but does not send a tracked figure's data to a private location service.

Contact form. If you send a message, we store your name, email address, the subject, any page link you include and the message itself, so we can reply and keep a record of corrections. It is not used for marketing.

Email signups. If you subscribe to the weekly email, we store your email address, the page you signed up from, and the date. This is used solely to send the email. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address.

The site has no accounts, no comments, and no other forms. Your browser stores your cookie choice for twelve months so the banner does not reappear on every visit.

Legal basis

Coverage of public figures is published under legitimate interest and for journalistic purposes: it summarises and links to reporting that is already public. Analytics cookies and the email list are processed on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Data about public figures

All information shown about the tracked figures derives from published news reporting and official public schedules, with sources linked. The site reports where a figure was last reported to be; it does not track anyone's real-time location.

Corrections, removal and your rights

Anyone may request a correction or removal through the contact form — see the contact page for how requests are handled. You may also ask for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, at the same address.
