About
A news-reading map of where the world's most talked-about public figures were last reported.
What this is
Where in the World Is… follows a changing roster of up to 18 widely covered public figures and shows, on one map, where each of them was last reported to be — with the date of the report and a link to the source. Alongside the map there are fourteen leaderboards (distance travelled, countries visited, estimated travel cost and carbon, days abroad, days without coverage, jet lag, shared cities, reliability of announced appearances and tone of coverage), a weekly Controversy Index, a dated archive page for every figure and day back to January 2025, and a small set of articles written from the site's own data.
Everything on the site comes from published journalism and official public schedules. The site runs automatically: headlines are collected and classified by software, and the full method is documented on the methodology page.
What this is not
This is not a live location tracker. It makes no claim about where anyone is right now, only where they were last reported to be. It never comments on anyone's health, safety or private life, and it publishes nothing that was not already public.
Who is tracked
The roster includes heads of state and government from the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, senior officials, and a small number of globally prominent business figures. Office-holding anchor figures remain; other places go to people with a verified public appearance in the previous 30 days and sufficient qualifying coverage. The active list is capped at 18 and changes over time. Each portrait is used under a licence that permits reuse, and every photographer and licence is listed on the image credits page.
Why it exists
The project started from a simple observation: the movements of the world's most powerful people are reported piecemeal, one article at a time, and the picture is hard to see. Collecting that public reporting in one neutral place makes the picture visible without adding anything to it.
Who runs it
The site is run by one independent private individual. It is funded by display advertising. You can reach the site at the contact form.
